Aural definition Pro 5 : Serious Sam

INTRO:-

Aural Definition is a new entrant in this ever growing audiophile market. They are based in the Philippines and are up with a healthy lineup of IEMs. They have a couple of BA based IEMs and a full array of EST based IEMs. Kyrios and Kyrios Pro have been hugging the limelight. All of their IEMs are available in custom or universal fit. Now none of these IEMs are cheap, they start at $670 and go as high as $2399 for the top of the line Custom version.

What I have here with me is their mid range street fighter, Pro 5, in universal fit version. It is an all BA IEM with details and accuracy in its mind and heart. It has 5 BA drivers and is supposed to be a bit more musical and fun sounding IEM compared to the Pro 4. Pro 5 is priced at $970 and takes the likes of CFA Andromeda heads on. I will compare it with Panther audio Legend K8 and Theiaudio Monarch.

ACCESSORIES & PACKAGING:-

The Pro 5 doesn’t have a retail packaging, just like other boutique brands. It directly ships with a huge protective case and all the accessories placed inside it. This hard carry case is huge. Carry whatever you want to, it can fit a DAP and portable DAC/amp with ease. Apart from the travel case there is pure leather carry pouch to keep the IEM safe from scratches and damage. The cable is placed inside this pouch and all other accessories are placed inside a sealed plastic pouch. There are 6 pair of tips, some stickers and a some alcohol wipes inside the box.

Here is my video for a more comprehensive unboxing.

BUILD QUALITY:-

Build quality of the Pro 5 is very good, it is up to the mark of every other earphone in its price range, it feels more solid compared to the Shozy pola, the shell looks stronger and more robust. The resin shell will not give into minor stress but can break if dropped on rigid surface. The Back plate or faceplate is fused nicely into the body and it feels seamless. Even when it has a 3 way crossover it has only two bores. The nozzle in its own is fairly deep giving a very secure feel inside the ear but has a slightly wider bore than its counter parts.

CABLE:-

While placing the order one can choose from a whole lot of varieties of cables, you can ask for, pure silver, copper or SPC. My unit has a 4 core pure silver litz cable in 2.5mm termination. All these cables are made by Custom Cables Philippines.

The 4 core braided cable has nice feel to it, there are no unnecessary layers of rubber on it, hence it’s not bouncy at all. It’s very supple and doesn’t tangle easily either. There is no microphonics to worry about. The cable guide is very supple too providing good hold and comfort. Cable splitter is of decent size and there are two cable sliders which is very unique.

COMFORT, ERGONOMICS AND SEAL :-

All of the custom earphones have very good fitment with plenty of customization. Their universal earphones, like the one I am reviewing too have a very comfortable and ergonomically feel to them. It is very comfortable for a 5ba earphone, Even some single BA earphones have bigger shell size. The smaller size makes it very comfortable earphone for most of the ears. The Pro 5 has an aptly deep nozzle giving it more stability and a secure fit. Pro 5 fits better than EE bravado and the Campfire Andromeda.

CAUTION:-  don’t use earphones where you have to be aware of your surroundings like driving and walking on the road, stay home and enjoy your music or at gym.

My humble audiophile journey started in 2010, when I was in college, where I fell in love with the elements, nuances, and variations of this mesmerizing world. The ability of tiny earphones to recreate amazing sounds made my bad days tolerable and good days better! Now I am a full-time audiophile with a preference for musical tracks, especially vocals and engaging ones. I must admit I am addicted, but not to drugs or alcohol, but to earphones. Come join me as I share my experiences, bad or good, and let’s have some fun!
