Following on from their 60th-anniversary turntable, Audio Technica has just released the ATH-W2022 limited-run headphone. This is a closed-back design with a signature wooden design and a focus on enduring commitment to analogue audio. Sourced and assembled in Japan, the W2022 uses Japanese Birch wood earcups that are hand-painted with a Sakura and Phoenix design then adorned with mother of Pearl. Within lie 58mm baffle-integrated drivers developed and optimised specifically for this headphone. They employ a new magnet circuit with a pole and yoke constructed from laminated pure iron plates. The diaphragm uses pure titanium at a mere 30 micron thickness to produce excellent extension and high-frequency response.
The ATH-W2022 just launched for $9000 USD. You can read all about it and treat yourself to a unit on Apos Audio!
