Fiio has been very hard at work this year which has been made even more evident by their CEO’s short BTS posts over social media. If you’ve followed along you’ve likely seen snippets of their latest release, the M17 being passed around. This is Fiio’s highest-end DAP to date, boasting desktop-grade components in a transportable chassis.
That includes not one, but two of ESS’ top-tier ES9038PRO DAC chips alongside a very capable THX AAA-788+ amp module that was jointly developed by Fiio and THX. The result is an extremely smooth sound with 140dB SNR and -122dB THD + N values. Fiio were also quick to note that the amplifier here isn’t a mobile solution as seen on the M11 series and QX DAC/AMP devices, but a desktop-grade amp capable of up to 3W of power output over balanced, nothing to scoff at.
Driving all of this is an ultra-low noise power supply system which is one of the most important factors when designing a high-performance source. The M17 utilises a large 9500mAh battery with high output amplitude and offers 10H/8H of runtime via single-ended/balanced respectively. In addition, it offers 470mF DMF supercapacitors equivalent to 10,000 47uF tantalum capacitors to offer a dynamic and powerful sound.
The M17 has a unibody aluminium chassis that functions as heat dissipation. This works in random with 3rd-gen VC liquid cooling to create stable performance over long durations. In addition to the usual 3.5mm, 2.5mm and 4.4mm outputs seen on other devices, the M17 also offers a 6.35mm output for full-sized headphones. This is topped with 5 gain levels making this a truly capable and versatile source.
The M17 just launched for $1999 USD. You can read more about it and treat yourself to a unit on HiFiGO!
