Closing thoughts

HiBy’s Zeta II is a rather remarkable achievement – a genuinely premium IEM that punches well above its $1,399 price point in nearly every metric that matters.

Its strengths are numerous and compelling. The build quality and design are world-class, with the kind of titanium craftsmanship you’d expect from watches or luxury goods rather than audio equipment.

The fit is exemplary, offering comfort that rivals IEMs costing several times more. The tuning is mature and refined, eschewing the exaggerated frequency response curves that many manufacturers use to grab attention, instead delivering a smooth, natural, fatigue-free sound signature that you can listen to for hours on end.

Technically, it’s more than competent. While it may not match the absolute resolution and staging prowess of summit-tier flagships costing five times as much, it gets close enough that most listeners would be hard-pressed to justify the price premium unless they’re chasing that last 10% of performance.

Are there weaknesses? A few, though they’re relatively minor. The included tips didn’t work for my smaller ear canals, which may be an issue for others with similar anatomy. The midrange presentation, while excellent, is slightly more restrained than some might prefer – if you love your vocals right up close and personal, you might find yourself wishing for a touch more presence. And if you’re a detail fiend who demands the absolute last word in resolution and micro-detail retrieval, there are more technically proficient options available, albeit at significantly higher prices.

Who would benefit most from Zeta II? Anyone seeking a mature, musical sound signature with excellent build quality and comfort. These are particularly well-suited to listeners who value long-term listening pleasure over short-term wow factor, and those who appreciate a refined, even-handed approach to tuning. They’re brilliant for diverse musical tastes, handling everything from intimate acoustics to complex modern productions with equal aplomb.

Who might look elsewhere? Those seeking maximum bass quantity or visceral slam, analytical detail-focused listeners who want every micro-detail thrust forward, and those who prefer an in-your-face vocal presentation will find other IEMs that cater more specifically to those preferences.

In a market where flagship IEMs routinely break the $3,000, $4,000, even $5,000 barrier – often with marginal improvements to justify the inflated pricing – Zeta II stands out as a voice of reason. It delivers a level of performance, build quality, and sonic sophistication that would have cost twice as much just a few years ago. In that context, $1,399 doesn’t just represent good value; it represents what I’d consider outstanding value.

This is the kind of IEM that reminds you why you fell in love with this hobby in the first place – not because it’s trying to impress you with technical party tricks or exaggerated frequency responses, but because it simply sounds beautiful, feels wonderful to wear, and gets out of the way of the music. Highly recommended.
