Impedance: 32 Ohms

Gear used:

  • Stock USB-C 3.5mm dongle
  • Dita Navigator
  • Colorfly CDMA1
  • Tanchjim Space Lite

Minimum pairing recommendation: Dongle DAC/Amp

The QT9-MK3 is a fairly efficient IEM with a high sensitivity. The fundamental tone and timbre of QT9-MK3 remain consistently clean across a multitude of sources. The accompanying 3.5mm unbalanced dongle DAC/Amp is more than sufficient for day-to-day listening.

At the end of the day, more powerful sources will yield discernable gains in sound quality and transient performance. However, these improvements are marginal on the QT9-MK3.

A Brief Comparison

Rose Technics QT-9 MK3

Price: $185

+ Unobtrusive but sleek design

+ Luxurious unboxing experience

– Tangle-prone and microphonic cable

+ Clarity-driven sound signature with a tasteful tilt in the upper-midrange

+ Euphonic and addictive treble shimmer

+ Taut bass-response with clean sub-bass flourish

– Plasticky timbre with a lack of lower-mid warmth

– Modest bass-response lacks impact and slam

+ Good soundstage/headroom and excellent imaging/layering

BQEYZ Cloud

Price: $169.00

+ Beautiful aluminium-alloy chassis with spotless finishing

+ Ultra-flexible and supple cable.

+ ‘Ethereally’ bright frequency response, with shimmery highs and porous atmospherics – more aggressive than the QT9 MK3

-Flat and neutral bass flourishes. However, the bass lacks texturing and weight – both are similar in this regard, but the Cloud is slightly ‘slower’ in PRAT

+Upper-midrange clarity emphasises voicings, elevating them in the mix.

+Layering is natural but precise, with decent headroom.

Conclusive Remarks

The QT9-MK3 is a quintessential IEM for studio monitoring and professional applications. Packing a highly detailed and south-of-neutral sound signature, Rose Technics’ has managed to condense an abundance of compelling sonic qualities into an affordable package.

While there are some teething issues that most hybrid IEMs in circulation suffer from (plasticky timbre, a timid bass response), the QT9-MK3 is a solid solo IEM for the enthusiast who wants to own just one set.
