Shozy CP Review – The Outlier

2

Pros –

Outstanding linearity and timbre, Strong treble extension and soundstage width, Gorgeous build and finish

Cons –

Upper-midrange slightly too smooth, Dark upper-treble

Verdict –

The CP introduces a highly natural and linear signature whilst retaining impressive technical ability and a very reasonable price tag.

Introduction –

Within the weird and wonderful world of Chi-Fi there are a select few that get especially weird but also, on occasion, exceptionally wonderful. That sums up Shozy and their eclectic range of experimental DAPs and ever-expanding range of premium earphones. Their Neo collaboration range has become a favourite of many and for good reason, these earphones represent proper engineering. Working off much of the same foundation as the 5-driver BG, the cheaper 3-driver CP implements the same core fundamentals. The same hand-assembled custom super tweeter is to be found alongside the same powerful Knowles 22955 woofer. At $165 USD, it represents a substantial discount over its larger sibling while retaining much of the same magic. You can read more about the CP here.

Disclaimer –

I would like to thank Shozy very much for their quick communication and for providing me with the CP for the purpose of review. All words are my own and there is no monetary incentive for a positive review. Despite receiving the earphones free of cost, I will attempt to be as objective as possible in my evaluation.

The CP comes packaged within Shozy’s signature card box with zippered carrying case inside. Within the case lies the earphones with excellent braided cable alongside a large assortment of eartips, 3 pairs of silicone mushroom tips, 3 pairs of dual flange tips and 2 pairs of memory foam tips. In addition, the CP includes two screw-on metal filters to adjust for user preference.

Design –

The BG introduces a new design but carries similar philosophy to the BG with similar focus on superlative finish and perfect comfort. The housings aren’t as finely sculpted as the BG, but possess a rounder, more compact design that will suit smaller eared listeners. They have a brilliant acrylic filled translucent design that surprises with its density and quality in-hand feel. Bubbles are completely absent, leaving a flawless high-gloss looking glass into the driver assembly, sound tubes and crossover circuitry inside; an aesthetic befitting of a significantly more expensive earphone.

Due to their rounder design, the CP offers excellent comfort and formed no hotspots over extended listening during my testing. However, as they lack the ear-filling design of the BG, they don’t offer the same locked-in sensation during wear. Nonetheless, with a well-sealing design and over-ear fit, stability is flawless even with active use. This also contributes to excellent passive noise isolation and the absence of any wind noise. Part of the experience can be attributed to the unique ear-tips that offer a slightly shallower fit but also excellent wearing comfort and reduced pressure on the ear. Much like the BG, ergonomics and design are a strong point for the CP.

The cable is also a curiosity, lacking the additional shielding of the BG cable, but offering a suppler feel. Shozy tout the implementation of high-quality MMCX connectors that proved perfectly reliable during my testing. The pure copper cable is organised in a 4-wire braid and offers excellent pliability with zero spring and memory. Microphonic noise is minimal and the pre-moulded ear guides offer excellent wearing comfort and stability. Meanwhile, aluminium connectors alongside ample strain-relief can be observed, providing tactility during use.

  1. An excellent review. This is an amazing website, and the reviews’ high production quality is quite apparent. The information is clear and succinct while being descriptive and informative, perfect for those on the go! The comparison at the end is a nice touch. Although, I would prefer it if at least one of the comparison was with a similar product, but from a lower price range. Overall, a very well done review!
