I joined this tour months and months ago. I have so little experience with single-driver dynamic IEMs, and this one stoked my desires in a big bad way. Such wonderful reviews are abroad, however scarce in count, and so I jumped at the opportunity to spend a week and change with one of the most highly regarded IEMs on the planet.

But there were delays with this tour. A unit got lost/stolen, and many individuals stood ahead of me in the queue. At long last, it was Pinky’s turn. 10 days with DITA the Dream. Not an easy timeframe for someone who has a review schedule amounting to nearly two months of backlog. But I made a commitment, and squeezed her in.

DITA is not an especially attractive monitor. It has a rugged, almost military aesthetic, forged of a sturdy, “Titanium Black” metal housing. But it’s rather comfortable, if you don’t take the cable into account.

Achieving a good fit and seal is trickier than I expected of this form factor. My go-to Spiral Dots didn’t stay sealed as well as they usually do. So I settled on the MandarineEs Symbio W tips, and that gave me reliable bass presence, holding the monitors in place remarkably well.

Now for that bloody cable. I HATE the Truth cable. I hate it with the heat of a dying star gone supernova. It is so heavy, stiff, and springy, I nearly foreswore DITA on the whole. The truth of the Truth is it does not want to be worn. It fights you every step of the way. If I were forced to choose between The Dream with this cable, or say, the $99 IT01, this thing would not have gotten much use these past 10 days. I may not sound very “audiophile” to you right now, but I couldn’t be more honest.

It’s a curious strategy, to make something which actively discourages one from using it. But who am I to question DITA’s policies? Perhaps it’s a good business model. Who knows?!

Fortunately for both Pinky’s health and the writing of this review, I could shed that dreadful noose and progress with the Effect Audio Leonidas. Ultimately, Leo is not vastly different than The Truth. They are both reasonably clear and neutral-esque. Though, I do hear Leo as being a bit more musical and transparent. So take that into account as you read on. I suffer greatly for my reviews, but there are limits to what I will endure.

Pinky is an artsy twat. Illustration, graphic design, writing. Yet music escapes him, and always has. He builds his own cables, and likes to explore the craftsmanship of others. He's a stabby one, also. At the first hint of annoyance, out comes the blade. I say he's compensating for something... in a big bad way. If we all try really hard as a collective, maybe we can have him put down.

  1. Thanks for the great review!!
I bought the Dita Dream, I cannot agree more, the Dream is ” engaging as f**k.”

  2. Not Joker. Pinky. Hi back.

The Dream is a notable step up in all such areas, with the exception perhaps being extension. Bass extension, The Dream is indeed better. Treble extension, it’s fairly close. Spartan might even have it beat by a small margin.

  3. Hi Joker.
Can you compare Dream with empire ears spartan ???
Which one has better bass, resolution, transparency, extention, imaging, and soundstage ???
