Time, Toil, and Treasure – A Review of the DUNU DK-3001 Pro

You’ll find it virtually impossible to make a bad pairing with the DUNU DK-3001 Pro. All frequencies are so well controlled these IEMs will never sound too bright or bassy, too warm or cold. Of course the source has an effect, but thanks to DUNU’s expert balance, nudging the profile this way or that will not tip them into offensive territory, regardless of your preference. The right marriage will only bring things closer to your ideal, whereas the wrong one is unlikely to spoil your enjoyment. This is a double edged sword, however. If the DK3k1Pro is not within your palate, no source will change that.

For this review my primary DAP was the Cayin N6ii with E02 Module. ($1,319, Review HERE) Obviously, this is a rather expensive option, but if you can swing it, the N6ii truly unlocks DUNU’s full potential. They sound so clear and deep, expansive and effortless. There is a magic to this pairing I never want to end.

iBasso’s DX160 ($399, Review HERE) is far more affordable and tuned more for sharpness and energy. This couple brings out a little extra treble and emphasizes clarity and detail. If you desire to push the transparency and soundstage to its fullest, I heartily recommend this setup.

On the other hand, if you want a mid-range player which brings out the warmth and organicity, look into the Shanling M5s. ($409, Review HERE). There is a seductive intimacy to this couple, a delicious musicality you will lose yourself in. When you discover something this right, your ears know it, and nothing else matters.
