To Tesla, or not to Telsa – A Review of the Astell&Kern T9iE

When contriving to pair the AK T9iE to a suitable source, consider the treble in particular. Do you want more or less? Do you wish, as I do, to perhaps infuse some warmth into those highs?

Cayin’s N6ii with module E01 ($1,319, Review HERE) proved to be a most satisfying feed for these in-ears. The warmth of this module is only matched by its brilliant technical performance. The N6ii helps them to achieve a more organic, natural disposition, whilst showcasing their exquisite cleanliness and detail. If money is no issue, this is the pairing I recommend.

If money is an issue, have a look at the Shanling M5s ($409, Review HERE). The Shanling house sound is one of boldness, richness, and musicality; all things these Tesla drivers are in dire need of. The M5s is a lot like the N6ii E01, just on a noticeably smaller scale of quality. Still, it’s good enough to put a mad smile on my face when listening to the T9iE.

While the Hidizs AP80 ($139, Review HERE) does not harmonize perfectly with the slightly brightish AK monitors, the overall sweetness of the sound will likely make you forget. Yes, the T9iE plays best from a warmer source, yet sometimes sheer technical prowess overcomes such prejudice, and the world gasps in awe, despite itself. For those on a bargain bucket budget, rest assured, here lies a wondrous deal.

He's a stabby one, also. At the first hint of annoyance, out comes the blade. I say he's compensating for something... in a big bad way. If we all try really hard as a collective, maybe we can have him put down.
