TLDR:

The Verus Lavender 6 is a bespoke cable deserving of the flagship moniker. More than just its opulent appearance, the Lavender 6 excels at enhancing sub-bass tones and textures with timbre depth. An analog-lover’s dream, expect vinyl-record warmth and realistic staging.

Pros:

+ Satisfyingly thick, hand-braided cable with premium y-split and termination hardware

+ Full-bodied sub-bass texturing and micro-detailing

+ Fulsome and nostalgic timbre

+ Noticeable gain in staging and imaging performance

Cons:

– Price-prohibitive – affordable IEM pairings may not yield significant returns in performance

– Heavyweight cable more suited to sit-and-listen sessions

– No-frills packaging not commensurate with price

Introduction

Verus Audio is a cable-maker that I chanced upon a doom-scrolling session on Instagram. Founded in 2015, the bespoke brand found its niche customising cables for home, car and portable audio applications. To my limited knowledge, the brand’s footprint is mostly limited to its home turf: Indonesia.

On the cable side of the audiophile hobby, the market is overtly dominated by a handful of brands, backed by significant capital and ad spend. This isn’t a personal slight on these brands, but rather their preponderance drowns out the smaller makers that operate on the fringes of this wonderful hobby.

Today, we’re going all-in with Verus Audio, reviewing their current flagship IEM cable, the Verus Lavender 6. Priced at 635 USD, the Lavender is considered a ‘reasonably-priced’ flagship as prices keep climbing on an annual basis.

The Lavender can be purchased directly on Verus Audio’s website.

Unboxing

This is going to be a brief section. The Lavender 6 comes shipped in a simple, no-frills cardboard box with its logo embossed into the top lid in silver. The cable comes shipped in a robust oversized hard case, and a Verus Audio sticker/decal.

It’s a practical package, but not one that exudes exclusivity or luxury.

Build and Design

The Lavender 6 is strewn from a proprietary blend of 7N OCC Gold Plated Copper, Long Crystal Gold Plated Silver, and OFC Silver Plated Copper with a co-axial structure. The entire length of cable is hand-braided and finished with Verus Audio’s customised hardware. Every component is soldered together with Verus Audio’s bespoke mix.

Visually, the flexible TPU sheathing encasing each core reveals a shimmery, lavender/burgundy color that sparkles subtly under a light source. The custom-machined Y-split and 4.4mm termination is excellently finished, with both components boasting a contrasting blend of high-polished and satinised surface treatments. It’s a very handsome cable that certainly matches up to the flagship moniker.

In the hand, the cable’s heft and girth speaks to its premium nature. The only caveat to this is that its weight can pull on the outer-earlobe when worn for long stretches. Unfortunately, the lack of a choker/cinch to adjust the length of both channels also affects how the cable drapes/pulls.

Overall, the Lavender 6 is extraordinarily well-built with an extravagant design, but there are definite areas that could use some tweaking.
