A Lens Through Which to Examine – A Review of the Beyerdynamic DT770 Studio

::Disclaimer::
Beyerdynamic provided the DT 770 Studio on loan for the purpose of my honest review, for good or ill.

The DT770 Studio sells exclusively at Guitar Center for $199. At the time of this writing there was a 20% discount, bringing it down to $179.

Beyerdynamic contacted THL to see if anyone wanted to review some of their newer products. At first I turned them down, as I had quite the backlog building. But a few months later, my schedule thinned out and I hit them up again to see if they were still interested. I’ve long desired to try a Beyer, but until now, circumstances had not been right.

The DT770 Studio is, as the name suggests, designed for studio use. It’s closed back, decently comfortable, and hard to drive. While they are only 80Ω, efficiency is rated at 96db. To hammer this point home, the cable is f**king long—maybe 10ft—and non-detachable. You will definitely be using these at a desk, driven from a proper headphone amp. If that’s not how you intend to use them, buy something else.

Weight is 270g, according to the website. Indeed, they feel rather light, both in-hand and on-head. Clamp-force is tight, but I imagine you can stretch out the headband to loosen that. Thanks to the softness of the pads, they feel comfortable on my large noggin right out of the box. I’m not blown away by the isolation. These are my first “Studio Headphones”, and I guess I expected more. Of course, they isolate better than most headphones I’ve tried… but that’s not saying much. However, when music is playing, you’re not going to hear much else. So you can say they are good enough.

I am thoroughly impressed by the build quality. These f**kers are sturdy. Lots of metal where it matters most. Exceptionally strong plastic cups. High-quality earpads and headband cushions. You’ll never fear mishandling the 770 Studio, for they give off the impression of something which will outlast you and your line of descendants.

Alright, let’s move on to the next page and talk about more interesting things.

  1. Completely the best headphones! I got it as a gift for my girlfriend. I gave them a shot after he responded saying that they are great. I attempted them and now I am putting it on my list for Christmas. I prescribe this to any individual who is real big into listening to amazing music!
