His focus became headphones and related gear as the size and price fit his life better than home audio. He believes the entire audio chain is important, and likes to continue to think past the headphone and on into the head, as he believes understanding the details of how we hear will lead to a better audio experience.

  1. Hi! I’ve been dithering as regards getting a pair of custom molded in-ear phones. My ear canals are very small, so ordinary ear buds don’t fit. I’ve had molds made by an audiologist, and I bought a pair of Logitech UE 900 phones, intending to get them custom molded by Inearz. I tried to listen to them first, though, and they had no bass and a flat soundstage. They were not musical to listen to, so I sold them at a loss, and bought a pair of Grado GR8e in-ear phones, intending to get those custom molded. I listened to those too. Again, they had no bass, and the soundstage was flat. These also sounded strident, so I sent them back to Grado and ordered a pair of Grado headphones. I know that I’ll like Grado headphones, because I’ve listened to them, and I love ’em. However I’d still like to have an inexpensive pair of custom molded, in-ear phones, for portability, but I’m getting gun shy. I’d like someone to guarantee my satisfaction before I order them. It’s not unlikely that if I’d gone ahead and had the Grado or Logitech phones actually molded to my ears, that I’d have been happy. The poor fit may have caused the lousy sound, but I’m not excited about buying another disappointing pair, especially if they’re custom molded, so that if I can’t make use of them, they would be worthless. Do you offer a satisfaction guarantee? Can you comment?
